How They'll Use the Award

Paso Verde School opened its doors in August 2017 with the decision to offer a rigorous academic curriculum, including an International Baccalaureate Programme (PYP) and a focus on Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math (STEAM). Each day our scholars come eager to learn, lead, and succeed, while our faculty supports our scholars by preparing them with the skills needed to succeed as they prepare for college and career in the 21st century. PVS faculty and staff work tirelessly to develop exemplar scholars who demonstrate our IB learner profiles. Scholars are also encouraged to think about their community and find solutions to problems they have identified, hence, inquiry-based learning and STEAM activities are part of the lesson plan each and every day.

STEAM activities can be resource intensive and while our faculty works hard to ensure their scholars have all the materials they require, we would be extremely appreciative to receive financial support to purchase resources that are needed for STEAM projects. This academic year, faculty prepared labs and taught the following activities: Solar Ovens, Building Circuits, Energy Roller Coasters, Bridge Building, Apple Towers, Cup Racers, Egg Drop, Parachutes to name a few. Some of our engineering labs have required soil, sand, and rocks for experimentation of the various environmental impacts on buildings in our community.

We will utilize funds to purchase materials needed to construct STEAM projects across our grades. Faculty have requested the following items but not limited to: balances, weights, magnet sets, soil, sand, rocks, lights, foil, plastic wrap, wire, batteries, paper, insulation, marbles, yarn, glue guns, Legos.
