How They'll Use the Grant

Santiago’s goal is to build a comprehensive arts education program through theatre, dance, music and visual arts for all TK-8th grade students. Our staff believes that each child is an individual with unique creative needs and our teachers provide equitable access to a high quality arts instruction for every Santiago student. Through a transformational process, we have developed a rigorous, research-based, and relevant arts curriculum. Our most pressing need is to renovate our media center and adjacent classrooms, to align our Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) learning spaces with our quality arts instruction.

The ScholarShare grant money will allow us to refurbish VAPA learning spaces in order to create rich, affirming environments that promote creativity, collaboration, innovation and practice. We would purchase several LED stage lighting fixtures with a programmable light board, a portable theater tech booth with a headset communication system, costume and prop storage units, paint for creating murals in our theater foyer, marley dance flooring for the stage, portable glassless dance mirrors, as well as new electronic media technology for researching, recording and editing student work and performances. These modernizations to our facilities and equipment would enhance our VAPA classroom environments so that students could thrive and acquire the 21st Century skills needed for the future.

We owe it to our children to develop their minds to imagine, learn, and discover solutions through the arts, and prepare them for viable jobs in a creative and collaborative workforce.
