How They'll Use the Grant

The Academy for Enriched Sciences is a global awareness & environmental science magnet elementary school in the San Fernando Valley with students from all socioeconomic, racial, and ethnic backgrounds. If awarded a ScholarShare Grant, will create a nature-centered, outdoor learning area to bridge our STEM curriculum (we are nominated as an LAUSD STEAM certified school for other schools to learn from) with hands-on learning about the natural world. Not only will this space allow our students to learn about our ecosystems and wildlife, but it will also serve an outdoor classroom where all our students, including our severe needs special day students, can hone their academic skills and nurture their curiosity, critical thinking and creativity. It will also provide enrichment and opportunities for every student, including those who learn best through movement and experiential instruction, to be engaged. We will ensure that our outdoor classroom consists of native, sustainable plants with a area for self-reflection. There will also be a large area for class instruction that shall accommodate our special needs students with small group work stations. Public art will be an important aspect of the outdoor space to fuse art with nature. Lastly, the outdoor classroom will be a starting point to create life-long partnerships with local organizations that are making an impact in our sustainable environment. We will also work toward having the space certified as a “Schoolyard Habitat”with The National Wildlife Federation. We thank you in advance for your commitment to the communities you serve.
